The Devastation of War
How the war began:
The Tigray Region is in northern Ethiopia and is currently considered to be the hot spot and the most affected from the war zone that started early in November of 2020. This war has created devastation in the lives of many Tigrayans, with a reported internal displacement of close to 2 million people and up to 70,000 refugees that fled to Sudan. The true scale of the devastation within Tigray as of yet is not known, for the war has been fought initially in absolute darkness. Unfortunately, women – especially childbearing women – and children were affected the most.
It was further witnessed that, the refugees have been arriving from Tigray with severe psychological and physical trauma; several signs of malnutrition, acute illness such as severe dehydration, and gunshot wounds; and manifestations of chronic and acute diarrheal diseases due to lack of safe water supply. These problems require immediate healthcare intervention to save the life of many Tigrayans.
Women and children affected need immediate access to healthcare and basic necessities such as food, clean water, and clothing. The world food program has reported more than 400,000 people are on the brink of death from famine.
